About this session:

The recent Covid pandemic resulted in a need for new knowledge on controlling the spread of germs in the indoor environment. This has led to a better understanding of how indoor activities affect the transmission of viruses and bacteria. It is now recognized that disinfection of surfaces controls the occurrence of viruses in the air you breathe – it is not just about coughs and sneezes.  Vacuuming or walking on the floor, and even working at an office desk can result in the resuspension of viruses and bacterial pathogens into the air which infect you when you breathe and in contamination of high touch surfaces.  Studies now show that the microorganisms on the floor are directly related to those in the air. Cleaning and disinfecting a floor and an office desk is just as important in reducing the risk of disease-causing microorganisms as any other surface. Strategic cleaning/disinfecting  and product selection are key to minimizing exposure to infectious microorganisms and use of resources.

  1.  Learn how resuspension of microbes from the floor occurs
  2. Recognize that resuspended microbes can be inhaled resulting in transission of infectious disease
  3. Help others understand how resuspended microbes can settle onto high touch surfaces
  4. Understand the importance of disinfecting/cleaning of surfaces in reducing the spread of microbes in the air
