Charles Gerba, PhD., is professor of Environmental Microbiology in the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology and Soil, Water and Environmental Science, University of Arizona. He has authored 700-plus articles and several books. A fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the American Association. for the Advancement of Science, and the International Water Association, he has served on the EPA?s Science Advisory Board for nine years and is a member of the FDA?s Food Advisory Board. His research focuses on pathogens in educational facilities, public spaces, offices, hospitality and healthcare settings, and public transportation venues and vehicles. His work has led to changes in cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting practices to help reduce the burden of infectious diseases. He shares insights on approaches that help interrupt outbreaks and minimize their impact on the community-at-large.
